Design of Steel Structures: Pedestrian Bridge

For the capstone of my Design of Steel Structures at UC Berkeley, we organized into teams of four and designed a pedestrian bridge to link the East and West spans of the Bay Bridge. The site constraints called for a low-impact design on the natural landscape, and an iconic structure to help define the region. Our team wanted to keep views as open and stunning as possible for pedestrians experiencing the beauty of the Bay Area.

Our Team developed the design of the bridge, and built a SAP 2000 model to detail the member sizes and test for dynamic modalities.

Bridge design concepts were explored by studying precedent structures, and initial proposals were iterated in Rhino.
